Hello all - I'm working on my first site and having problems with the page layout. I'm working on my laptop (15"), so everytime I preview, it fits the page perfectly. I just uploaded for the first time to "test-drive", and it doesn't cover a 19" monitor. It looks very small and funny. My website is www.emmakensington.com

G'day.

It depends what look your going for.

If you just want to have your page neat and centered on what ever size screen, You should try checking the 'center page horizontally' option in the 'Edit Page Properties' editor, in the 'Special Effects' tab, this will keep your web page centered.

If you want your web page to cover the screen and expand to fit any size screen, well that's a bit of longer story, but it can be done.
So reply if you want to do this and I'll explain or point you towards some previous topics on this as well as I can, or better yet a 'Guru Mechanic' will pick up your reply and usually tell you their thoughts.

This would be a walk in the park for a 'Guru'.

Cheers,
Tonga.

G'day 77.

I'll try to explain as best as I can.

Now, it looks like your using SS Pro but I'm just using SS, I not Sure how different Pro is but I can imagine they would have to be similar in allot of ways, but I'll try my best.

You have to use relative vertical and horizontal positioning on your objects, plus relative (or dynamic), vertical and horizontal sizing for some objects as well, also align positioning.

I personally control these setting from the 'align bar' at the bottom of my work screen on SiteSpinner eg.here.

If you don't have it set up on your page yet go here.

I've slapped up a test page for you, to show an example of what can be done.
Now this is just a basic example so it's not very pretty here.

For the back ground I just left it white and all settings are default.
First I made up an area of the page I want content on (the dark aqua area), now this is a rectangle object, so don't confuse it with a proper back ground.

Then I placed the objects and text in the spots I wanted them (as per useral), and I applied the settings needed using the 'align bar' for each object.

I have a screen shot (SS screen shot only) of these settings that correspond with every object on my example page here, you can get to this screen shot page through the example page as well.

I find it helpful to lock the objects when your setting the alignment left or right, up or down, this stops the objects from moving right to the edge in the work window (unless of course you want this).

So have a play around and let me no if this helps at all, I know the screen shots aren’t in SS PRO but it should be enough to guide you.

I'm sure there's other ways to do this, which others on the forum may enlighten you with the details.

Good Luck'
Tonga.

Hello Tonga - I must be very "sitespinner" challenged because I can't seem to get it right LOL!!

I tried to emulate your Aqua box settings but I'm having a hard time getting it right. I used the 800x600, checked the "center page horizontally", and all the four relative positioning icons. What am I missing? When I uploaded the site after doing that, the black and the stripped green boxes still aren't covering the screen. www.emmakensington.com

Thanks much

Relative positioning and centering the page do not work together - you have to use one or the other.

Thanks Larryd. At this point, I don't know what to do. I worked on the older trial version that I downloaded a while back, and was able to get it right. I went back to my sitespinner pro, did the same things, but was not able to achieve it. What am I missing here? Is there some glitch with the new pro?

If you are set on using relative positioning and sizing, do not set horizontal page centering on in the Page Editor. The two have never worked well together -- you may have got lucky previously.

There may be occasions when the two will work together, but don't count on it!

For another angle on relative positioning and sizing, see Help > Tutorials > "LayoutRel" (Relative Layout). However, the page you have on your site just now looks fine to me -- the horizontal page centering is working just as it should.

G'day 77.

It's cool, you'll get it right!

As Guru 'Geezer' said, "Relative positioning and centering don't work together".

Try going back into the 'page editor' and un-checking the center page 'horizontally' box, then re-publish.
See how you go with this.

Good luck,
Tonga.
