Something weird is happening with a new website I have been working on for the last few weeks. I have been using the grouping and cloning and sometimes when I ungroup two particular segments they move up or down and then may be lost or reset themselves up on other pages in other positions. Seems like something has corrupted my new site. Also when trying to upload the final version to my host server after transferring up to a point, errors are popping up and then I stop the uploading.
I am going to ungroup and hopefully clean up and fix the problem but thought I would throw this out to see if anyone has a clue to what my problem is? I can upload one page at a time but if I try to upload more than one page the error comes up and blocks the upload?? Website: www.cedarwoodproductsdirect.com Thanks Doug P.S. I removed some of the boxes around some of the photo's on the Western Cedar product page and was able to publish minus the boxes. Other pages indicate publish with out error but are still not there? Can't figure out where they went...?? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dougie, |

Might you have spaces or punctuation in an image file name? As the error relates to creating a directory named "500 " I'd look suspiciously at any images with "500 " in the image file name.
A good rule to follow is no spaces or punctuation in page or image file names. |

Bruceee,
I have been using underscore in the page ID and photo's (one that was a problem had a - which I corrected to _ ) XXX_XXX_XX Does that create any problem, Also do caps or lower case make any difference in photo or Page ID's? When building my website: Still not sure what causes the grouped images to bounce up and copy to other pages when "ungrouping" them? I have to delete some and reposition the copy. I do have some bulleted copy which seems to cause some problems but not sure if the two are related? Also some of my rectangles in back of photo's come up as broken links when there shouldn't be a link? NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. I CAN'T PREVIEW ANY LINKS ON SITESPINNER TO DESCRIPTION PAGES ON THIS PARTICULAR WEBSITE. MY OTHER WEBSITES ARE WORKING?? IMAGES THAT WERE WORKING ARE NOT WORKING KNOW? I BLEW IT SOMEWHERE Take a look at www.cedarwoodproductsdirect.com on the Thanks, Doug This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dougie, |

Underscores (_) are acceptable in photo and page names. There is an exception to every rule
A mix of caps and lower case in photo and Page IDs is also acceptable. The main thing you have to watch out for is that the capitalization in the link should exactly match the image or page name. This is really only a problem if you are doing links manually. If you use the automatic link features built into SiteSpinner, the capitalization will automatically match. You computer won't care about mismatches, but your host might. Result: broken links that show up only when you upload your project to your site but not in preview. Your unwanted links on some of the rectangles may be "phantoms" as we previously discussed here. If not, can you point to an actual example? If you have images being automatically copied to other pages, might you have accidentally set some includes or clones? If you suspect bullets are the problem, try removing them temporarily. For your BIG problem, did you preview ALL? That probably doesn't cover all the issues, but it's a start.... |

I had cloned some text and duplicated on all pages. When I ungrouped them to rearrange for spacing, moving and duplicating happen on some but not all? I hadn't used "Include" on any copy.
For some reason I am unable to preview the links on my Western Cedar, Java Teak or Chinese Oak photo's at all now. I was able to before I uploaded but have obviously done something to screw it up??? I removed all of the _ in my page titles and now can't open any pages in preview. When I checked automatic links it picked up the changes. I am not able to open any photo's to page links now. Example of 1 of the titles: AAO21_cdrottmnset _________________________________________________ message in preview when trying to open link Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. The website is encountering problems. There might be a typing error in the address. What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems |

Let's start with the most serious problem first. Did you preview ALL after changing your page names? If you preview only the page with the new name, the other pages already in your preview folder will continue to use the old page names in the links. Result: broken links. Fix: Preview ALL.
What should "AAO21_cdrottmnset" be? If an image it should have a .jpg extension (probably). If a page, it should have a .html extension. Hope there is a clue there and it's not just a typo... |

I overlooked 6 photo's with (-) instead of (_)
I am going to fix those and see what happens I just copied the title off of the spinner and forgot to add the html... Would six photo's with the dash mess up the whole website preview?? (ex. FB-76_R_Bridge) Thanks Doug |

They might. In cases like this it is always best to first fix the known problem(s) then look again at whatever is still not right after you have done that.

FYI:
Little things mean a lot! I'm not sure what that little thing was but after putzing around I discovered if I replace my photo's in my linked pages the page that I was linking from is now working. But at least it looks like it has been solved (I think) The only thing I corrected on my photo page out of approx. 100 photos were about 6 that had a (-) in part of the title? That fixed my preview function on Sitespinner but still getting the......... Transfer Error: (12003) Creating directory on Web Server: '/Dougiedoo/image/' 500 '': command not understood. I haven't been able to see anything to fix it. Could this be a server problem with my web hosting?? Thanks for your help. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dougie, |

I don't know I guess I can't see the trees for the forest. I have checked the submittion and can't see anything wrong but there are 8 pages that didn't transfer properly??
I submitted all 8 pages individually. The transfer indicated all transferred WITHOUT errors??? Checking them out from the site map page on www.cedarwoodproductsdirect.com TD20 TEAK CHAIR TL78 TEAK CHAISE LOUNGER TC20 TEAK BEACH LOUNGER CUSHION MT70U-5 (5PC. MRKT TABLE)CEDAR WOOD MT70U-3 (3PC. MRKT TABLE) CEDAR WOOD PL20 (PLANTER BOX) CEDAR WOOD PL30 (PLANTER BOX) CEDAR WOOD OA21 (OAK ADIRONDACK) and it indicates broken link on them. Baffled and On my Western Cedar Page I had added some more information, I now can't upload with changes. I started deleting all of the errors that came up 2 by 2 and it has me gradually deleting the entire page. At first it was delete all of the rectangles with radius corner and then all of the images??? I have never had a problem like this on my other websites before I almost feel like I should start over.....big job! Don't want to do that.......wouldn't be prudent! Help! Starting over is not an option! This is a perplexing problem but I'm sure it can be solved without that drastic step
First step: define the most serious problem. I think I can do that: you can't upload your WesternCedar.html page without publish errors. Dougie can you do this? This won't change anything on your existing site, but will allow us to look at the html on the Test page to get a better idea of what is happening. |

Brucee, there we approx. 50 retries on the upload. All had the same error as the one below.

I see your test page here and it looks good to me. In particular, no missing images (with the little red x). This is not conclusive, because images might be missed because of errors in the upload, but will still display in your browser, because they were there before. But if your last transfer showed no errors, we can be reasonably sure the images did indeed upload too.
How does the test page look to you? If that is OK, I'd try to publish the same page (TEST) a few more times to see if there is any pattern to the errors. There may be problems with your connection to the server. If there are still errors, try changing from active mode to passive mode or vice versa (Publisher FTP tab: "Use Passive Mode") -- that may help. Let's know how that goes -- then we can take the next step... |

Actually I didn't know I could look at the test page, other than in preview....shows you how much I know? I did send the Western Cedar page in the passive mode and it went through okay
Looks like the passive mode solved the problem. After re-publishing all pages again all seem to be working fine. As always your help was much appreciated!! Thanks, Doug This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dougie, |
