Hi

I published my site using the sitespinner FTP upload facility, which went through all the files and ended with "tranferred without errors" message. But when I look at the site in my browser (www.swannlaser.com) all the html files show but not the images??? Please HELP!!

When you uploaded, did you use "Gather all files (recommended)"? It looks as though your images are not there. Maybe try to reload the project, and when the progress window displays "transferred without errors" follow these steps from an another post:


--From Brucee:
1. Do the publish
2. Right click the export progress text
3. "Select All" from the context menu
4. Use Ctrl+C to copy to the Windows clipboard
5. Use Ctrl+V to paste into your next post here.

Open the Publisher to the FTP tab and click the Browse button. Do you see your .html files and the image and geometry folders?

Can you also click the red up-arrow icon shown in the window and does it take you up to a higher level directory? If so, then you are publishing to the wrong location and you will need to publish to this higher level directory (which shuld be your root directory).

Hi. Thanks for your message. I clicked the browse button in the FTP tab as you instructed, and the directory lists the html files but not the image or geometery folders. When I click the red arrow, it shows another red arrow with a folder named www below it. When I click the folder it goes back to the html files and if I click the arrow nothing happens. Still stuck...

It appears you are not publishing to the correct site directory. I say this because using a URL of /www/swannlaser.com/aboutus.html yields a page not found error.

I'm not entirely sure (not being able to see your site's directory structure), but I think you should be publishing to /www/html and not /www; can you confirm if you have a directory named /html under the /www directory?

The FTP directory has the transfer profile set to default; the destination directory is /www with no other options given; in the window below is the list of 8 html pages; but I notice in that list is also the .ims file (name of the folder that holds the whole site in sitespinner) Should that be there? Shouldn't the geometery and image folders be listed in that window? If so, why are they not listed?

Please check with your hosting service provider and find out what your root directory is named. I do not think /www is correct since your pages are not showing up.

I did check it with them this morning and they confirmed /www was correct. But I'll check again with someone else and let you know. Thanks.

Ok, I've checked with the hosting company and we discovered the following: the images are not uploading because the source code for them is either /image/ or /geometery/ at the front of each code, but no folders called image or geometery are uploading onto the server so the images cannot be retrieved. When the tech help deleted that part of the source code for a couple of images, the images showed. PLEASE tell me how to do this in bulk, as I can't go through all the code for every item and do it one by one. This is now really eating up my time. HELP!

SiteSpinner should be creating those folders and then loading them with the appropriate content.

The problem now is what is preventing SS from creating those folders on your site. Does the FTP login you are using have permission to create folders? Sometimes this needs to be set on the server.

Try using the SS Publisher FTP tab's Browse button again and this time when the window opens, use the "Create Folder" button to create the image and geometry folders. Maybe if you manually create them, SS will see them and use them as it should. This will also test if you have permission to create the folders.

ok, I've tried that and it doesn't work. I think my version of sitespinner is possibly corrupted because although the transfer was completed without errors, the web tells me the page is not found. Unfortunately I don't have the original on disc as I downloaded it straight to my computer. Would it be possible to reinstall it without charge?

Try downloading the program again before you reinstall, just in case the original download is corrupted. You should be able to safely re-install without uninstalling but this is probably not the best way. I would advise you to write down your program registration key and your FTP info, then uninstall your current program and then reinstall.

I no longer have my registration info or the credit card I used for the payment, because it was a few years ago. If I save the .ims file to my desktop, is that enough to save the full project so that I can uninstall SS?

Open SiteSpinner, click Help->About. Your registration number is location in the lower left hand corner labeled "Serial #". You should keep this in a safe place.

Your project .ims file will not be deleted if you uninstall. But it is a good practice to back it up by making a copy of it, just in case something goes wrong with your computer. A USB flash drive is a good way to keep a back-up copy.

Your FTP info is not saved in your project file, so you will need to write that down if you do not have the e-mail with those details sent by your hosting provider.

Your FTP info will be in an INI file under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Virtual Mechanics\Bin\ftpro.ini (Windows XP).

That is the name of the INI file for SS Pro. I’m not sure of the name for SS Standard, but it will be something similar.

You can save that file to somewhere else on your computer then replace it after reinstalling.

Your site now seems to be up with a full complement of images, so you have done it!!!

You can normally uninstall and reinstall SiteSpinner without losing your registration details or your project files. However if it is a fresh install such as on a new computer, the registration details are in two parts -- you need both:

The serial number that Larry described

The registration code. You enter this at the time of registration, but after that SiteSpinner does not display it.

Without both parts, you will be lost if you ever need to do a fresh install. That is why VM nags you at install time to save your registration details in a safe place. If you do lose them, VM support can advise you again of those details, but you need to jump through a few hoops to get them. See I lost my Registration information, can you resend it?

I've used sitespinner a couple of years and previously uploaded to 1&1Internet hosting without problems. I suspect the new hosting company I'm using (AAISP.NET) somehow clashes with SS ftp? Don't really know as I'm not an IT person at all. Just updating you guys in case the VM people want to check it out, as others may have the same probs and it would be a shame as SS is great to build with... Anyway, best of luck and thanks again.
