Working on my second website, much bigger than the first. Tried my hand at drop-down menus this time and it looked pretty good except for a few "ghosts" hanging out when I moved onto the adjacent menu.

Well in the process of "fixing" my little problems I completly hosed up what I had and made the situation much worse than it was.

Which of course is why I'm looking for help now. Mouse overs, triggers, display objects, groups, it's all becoming a nightmare! Is there a drop-down menu guru out there that can help me?

Thanks for the quick response Postyr!

I have added the step into the Tutorial and will go back review everything keeping that in mind.

I'm also looking over the Coffee Cup DHTML Menu Builder and if I don't figure out what I've done wrong in SS I may try using CC. Geez, will the learning curve never end!? Eek

Hi WitsEnd,
Possibly you've fixed your menu by now. If not, maybe if you publish the page with the menu and post a link here we could have a look what the problem is. I have also some ready made SS menus for download here as an alternative to CC menus. If this is what you are looking for you just need to change colours and/or fonts to suit your own needs.

Hi All,

Thanks for your input. I gave up and rebuilt all but one - bringing me back to my original problems. It wasn't from scratch anyway, just modified one of the templates. I’ve published to www.ardmorecompanionanimalhospital.com/sb Just the first page of course.

I tried to add special fx to hide the drop-down on the left when viewing the adjacent drop-down. (i.e. Hide “About Us” drop-down when “Services” drop-down is visible so I don’t have overlapping menus.) This caused the hanging “ghosts” (text visible when cursor in various “sweet spots”.) Took that effect off and now I have what you see currently.

Hope this makes sense!

I see the overlapping drop-downs that you mention.

The problem may just be that the hot-spot is too wide. If so, reducing the width of the drop-downs may overcome the problem. You may need a slightly smaller font and some minor text changes to do this.

If that doesn't help, which template did you use?

I used Drop Down Menu Template 1, I adjusted the width of men40 and men 44.

Did you have any luck reducing the menu width and/or changing the font?

I expected you to be have been using one of the templates that ship with SiteSpinner, one of Klimt's templates. However your template name "Drop Down Menu Template 1" doesn't match SiteSpinner's "DropDownMenus" or Klimt's "tutmenu?button" or "tutmenu?text". Nor can I match your object names men40 and men44 against anything in SiteSpinner's DropDownMenus template. If you are still stuck, can you more fully describe the template you used?

I spent a good portion of the day changing widths yesterday and I think it looks okay. At least I don't have any overlaps to worry about. I tried to upload again but lost my connection due to weather here. I will try again later.

I believe the template did ship with SS, it is the very first one on the page (green), created 12 June 2006? I'm not sure how to tell who the author is.

Meanwhile, if everyone could look over my site for potential problems, that would be great. I'm hoping to have all the "Under Construction" areas finished and photos added by the end of the month but most of the structure is in place.

Thanks Roma, I've stumbled onto your site a few times now looking for SS info. Very good stuff!! I liked all the planning steps for website design, though I can't say I was patient enough to follow them all!
