Hello,
Please go to the W3C page and download the Adobe alpha SVG Viewer 6.0 and execute. http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/ Then try access these direct SVG links in Internet Explorer 6.00 28. http://members.shaw.ca/rcswebby/dalcrusa.svg http://members.shaw.ca/rcswebby/captursa.svg Then, please go to this page and download the Flash Peak "Slim Browser" http://www.flashpeak.com/sbrowser/sbrowser.htm Execute the Adobe download again, and check in program files>Slimbrowser>Plugins and check whether or not the plugins loaded. If not, search for "NPSVG6.dll," "NPSVG6.zip" and "NPViewerPlugin.dll." and load manually. Then using Slim Browser click on the two above direct .svg links. I don't have IE 6 on XP so I don't know whether or not it will view the .svg files: but Slim Browser will. Depending on the outcome; it could mean the end of embedded SVG pages!!!! Opera will view .svg directly if the switch in file>preferences>file types> is set to extension instead of mime. But only for SVG 3.0. It does not yet work properly with SVG 6.0 alpha. How sweet it is, Cheers, Muzz |

Okey-dokey. If IE 6 cannot display .svg directly whereas SlimBrowser and Opera can, does that not tell you something?
State of the Union Comments: I will prepare notes on perspective as an .svg presentation and present the link. My pursuit of SVG will now be a private one. Whatever VM chooses to do to further the advancement of SVG is, and always has been, a matter in which a relative few of us obviously have little influence. As someone noted elsewhere, things go onto a list, but not even an approximate timetable for implementation is offered. Although there have been significant improvements to Web Engine -- and necessary, justified, and important ones -- the enhancement of SVG capability per se in the past 1 1/2 years has been absolutely minimal. I am but one client and accordingly do not expect my requests to be acted on the moment I utter them. But one and one half years is a long time to wait for advancement in an aspect to which a company is on record of being committed to. There are good reasons for this I am sure, but since I am not privy to them, I can only act upon what I know and move on to other concerns, interests, and responsibilities. This, I believe, is what "perspective" is all about, not to mention the Serenity Prayer ("The Metaphysical and The Man-Made" as I refer to it). The short version goes like this: my committment to SVG is undiluted, but it has become less and less rewarding to discuss, and most cetainly no longer any fun. Thanks D_L.

Hi D_L,
Haven't yet but plan to become a blog (what a name!) I think I have done everything right, but sodipodi just sits as a thin vertical rectangle at the left of my screen. I haven't figured out how to get it to bloom. Muzz |

That's the correct installation .. from the sodipodi panel .. click on the button near top left .. on mouseover you should see a title .. "Create New SVG Document (Cntrl+n)" An SVG new document window should then launch. There are several groups of controls file edit object selection draw zoom nodes if you click on the button to the right of these titles you can launch separate floating controls. A word of caution .. sodipodi is quite new and suddenly shuts down when I do something wrong .. no graceful degradation or saving of work .. but I'm sure this will improve in a open source community. Just make sure you save frequently. On the positive side, since it is open source, you can compile sodipodi source code in your own environmen and perhaps add other features or plugins to contribute. Hi D_L,
I am "blogged." Thanks for the warning about sodipodi. I have created a simple diagram with text (can you specify font colour? It wasn't obvious to me one way or the other.) -- and saved it as standard SVG, but I haven't cracked the nut on how to get it into Web Engine. So far I have just a blank page; but I haven't tried very hard yet. Do you import it as code, or as an SVG object page? Blogged, Muzz |

sodipodi is a bit intuitive .. haven't found any user manuals yet .. but to colour the text after creating text object go to object panel and select fill .. then at bottom there is a button "apply to selected objects" and in drop down menu select the text object. I guess you will have worked it out by now by trial and error. Use the zoom feature to blow up the text object. Have a look at their gallery on their site .. You can merge any sodipodi created svg code into Webengine by using the Webengine code editor. D_L |
