hi all, new here, need help with getting sound mouseovers working in firefox.

i've already searched the board, and have come across tutorials from bruceeeeeeee, but they only work in ie. i've found two workarounds online , but i'm having trouble implementing them in sitespinner. i'm new at designing webpages and wouldn't mind detailed instructions.

http://www.beyondfusion.com/html/tutorial-playsound.php based on http://www.milonic.com/mfa/2005-October/006636.html

and

http://www.hotspot.freeserve.co.uk/ttdemo/

i've only tried the first one and followed it as far as i can go. placed the overplay.js in the preview folder and had an image with link: javascript:void()" onMouseover="OverPlay() and bundled step3#e with step2 on a code and still no go. help please. i'm tired and dissapointed. Frown

Try this. I haven't tested this on browsers other than IE6, so let's know if you find something it doesn't work on.

I would have tested on Firefox, but don't have a sound plug in. The only one FF offered was Apple QuickTime, a 35Mb download. This dialup user is not doing that Smile

other than the slight pause due to quicktime's loading, it works PERFECT. i think i'll just stick with the onclick.

thanks much brucEEE.

btw, i use quicktime alternative : http://codecguide.com/about_qt.htm

Thanks -- a 13Mb download is much more reasonable, so I'll go with that.

What browsers have you tested it on so far?

i've tried it on internet explorer, firefox. don't remember if it works in opera, haven't reinstalled it again after a reformat.

you can also get realplayer alternative if you browse around. i prefer mpc, requires less resource.

thanks again.

Thanks for your help so far. This looks like it is going to work for me.

The other thing I am wondering is how easy would it be to use other sound effects? The one that you have provided is good but I was looking for a sound that would be more like a "click" as opposed to a "pop".

The sound is controlled by the .wav file you use. There are some more sound effects here -- look down the bottom of the page.

If you want a special sound, try googling on something like "click.wav" -- you'll find plenty Smile
