I am contemplating putting a page onto my site that features ads from Google adsense, but before I do I'd like to ask y'all if you've had any experience with it good or bad. Thanks.

Until somebody happens along who actually uses it, check out these previous discussions.

I use Adsense.
I put it on the site, out of curiosity at first, but I haven't really promoted, or optimised it for best results, as yet.
Had no problems with it so far, and just about to receive my first $100 payment soon.
If it helps to cover my hosting costs, I shall be happy.
You need to be careful about the content on the page(s) you use it on, or you will have to filter out ads from your competitors.

Hey Andy,
With my domain names (2) and hosting I pay about $120 per year through godaddy.com. So far I have been really impressed with them. Almost as impressed as I have been with VM. BTW, what kind of paper should you use with them paper models you make - regular or something thicker?

Hi Andy,
It must be about a year and a half. It started off slowly, but averaging around $10/month at the moment. Not going to make me rich, but helps with hosting costs.
On a more popular site, and with good optimisation, it would be much more.
On the topic of hosting, I recently needed to upgrade my bandwidth transfer, and web space. I found a good deal (way better than my existing host), but needed to contact my host for domain name transfer. My existing hosting service, immediately offered to match the deal I found, if I would agree to stay with them!
Needless to say, I did Smile
So, before jumping ship, and with all the hassle that entails, always try to negotiate with your existing provider.

I'm glad you have a host your happy with, theres just so many I guess it's all a bit of a lottery choosing which one to go for. Most of mine are on the ad free 110.mb.com servers. The support is very good and quick, server space and bandwidth is Very big but I find the downloads speeds pretty slow of late which is a shame, but hey it's Free, and that's all I can afford Wink

Re the paper sizes, that's a tough one really. I think alot depends on preference but I just use the absolute cheapest photo glosy paper I can find ( pound shop ! ) and it's a round 200gsm. I think anywhere between 170-220 would be ok. Too thick and it's very dificult to make nice neat folds, too thin and it doesn't stay flat and makes your model look very poor !

I think that's pretty impressive actually, I presume we are talking about your music site Learn 2 Play Music ( I don't know If you have more ).

lol, glad you got that sorted but doesn't that make you mad ? Everytime I get an insurance renewal quote for anything it's gone up, and eveytime I ring up moan, say I'm going to move and guess what they lower it... it's just such a drag having to do it all the time !!

Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,
Yes, I just have the one site.
I only have adsense on a couple of pages, as I don't want ads on the lesson pages.
I did put a PayPal donation button on there, three months ago, and have raised $65 so far, much to my suprise Smile
I think with Adsense, it is a good move to write some pages with content that visitors will want to read. I put a couple of short pages about buying and choosing digital pianos and keyboards, and placed ads on them, and my clicks have increased as a result.
It seems that if you write about a reasonably high value product, the resulting ads, pay better.
Regards,
Rob

Hey Rob,
I went to your site and I really like it. I like how the ads seem to blend right in. It looks professional and crisp. Mine look pasted in. I'll probably change the backgrd. to match or contrast or something, but right now I'm fed up with foolin' with it. I have surmised from reading posts that Google forums sure ain't the friendliest place in the world. I don't feel like I'm among friends there like I do here. Cheers.

Well, the Google ads are the only professional looking part of my site Red Face
The index page seems a bit amateurish to me, but a revamp is in the pipeline.
Good luck with adsense Smile

Wow, thats' pretty good to, I do have a paypal button on one of my sites and have never got anything from it as such but I have had a Whopping 4 'donations' to download all my cursors. I had to think carefully on how to spend it ;-)

Tha sounds sensible, thas ads are meant to be matched to your content aren't they. Is there no way you can mix in some Diamond selling along with the odd Ferrari in all that music content !

Regards
Andy

Thanks for reminding me about the missing page, Andy.
I noticed it a while back, but forgot to replace it Red Face
I have been busy writing content to place in a subscribers only, section. Hopefully, I won't need the Google ads then.
Or maybe I should write an article about driving to a concert in a Ferrari, wearing a Hugo Boss suit, to play a diamond studded Steinway grand piano, followed by a champagne and caviar reception at the Ritz Wink
