If you are concerned about screwing up your present site, you could upload to a sub-folder of your site named /test or similar.
This would allow you to see how it will look, while keeping the present site in place. Nobody else will see the new one. When you go live, you would need to upload the whole thing again to your root folder. |

Thanks Bruceee - but how do you do that. I am a beginner when it comes to all this.

Access your site via FTP. Highlight your root directory (probably public_html or similar).
Depending on what FTP program you are using, you should be able to right click the root folder, and have a choice from the context menu such as “Create Folder” . Do that, and name it whatever you like, such as “test”. Upload your entire site into the “site” folder. You should now be able to test your new site by entering “http://www.mysite/test” without the quotes. If you have an index page, the browser will find it. If not, you will have to enter the page name and suffix after “test”, such as “http://www.mysite/test/myPage.html” |
