Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing SS after browsing through the net. I will use the SS to create a store-front very much like www.naturallyweise.com.
I have intentions to include a forum just like this one for interaction for my community/customers. Can SS create one like this?

Since I am likely to purchase SS and I am taking advantage of the 1 Yr free hosting, will J2-VDS be sufficient.

Thanks in advance!

Best,
A.

There's no forum software built into SiteSpinner, but there are a number of third-party solutions possible that should integrate with SiteSpinner.

One (almost!) free one, phpBB, gets favorable mention here and one of our members, Phil, is using it on his site.

To use it, the only requirement is that your host supports MySQL database -- and it seems that J2-VDS does this as part of the freebie.

Thanks Bruceee,

I have just purchased SS and am tinkering about with it.

Just excited about creating it so before someone yells "rtfm" can anyone point me to the steps to create checkoout counters?

By the way, the online purchase at vm was a breeze! I am in the process of registering the freebie webhost at Jump.

If you mean a shopping cart, then do a Google search for "free shopping cart".
There are several excellent choices available, varying in degrees of complexity, and obviously features.
But you should know that implementing a cart takes a bit of time, and you need to have your ducks in a row.
Good luck!

It may also be worth checking if your webhost provides a shopping cart script. Many do. It can usually be accessed through your Control Panel

Hmmm, Bailey, I went through jumpline and found that they do offer an ecommerce package. There is miva and ssl. Are you referring to these?

Oh well, my website is down and the ip address is unreachable, hmmm... hopefully Support will be able to resolve this soon.

Yes, Miva is a shopping cart solution, although I am not sure that it is free.
As plaZma posted earlier, a search for free shopping carts may be the answer, although support may be limited on these.

Hello Arthur

RomanCart is worth looking into. you can use it for free or buy it. The bought one has lots more benifits like,a control panel swipecard payments. and much more They seem to have a good product from what I've read, All you need to know to add RomanCart to your web pages is how to create hyperlinks, easy peasy click Here to check it out.

Best of luck with your choices

If you are planning to open an e-commerce site, make sure you get SSL support. SSL stands for "Secure Socket Layer" and you should never do credit card business over an unsecure line. You usually have to purchase security certificates that your visitor uses to verify the site is legitimate. I would be very suspicious of any site requesting credit card info without issuing valid security certificates.

Thanks for the advice.

Well at least my site is up and running. So its back to the construction!

I was thinking about the ecommerce part for starters to be payment in checks or money orders. So its like the person chooses the product(s) drops it into the cart and sees the amount at checkout and then when the person presses submit, an email will be sent to me.

At a later stage, I will incorporate SSL and of course, i will probably have to read about it somewhere... yes, I do believe that Mivo is chargeable but I have not in depth to find out...

Best,
A.
