Hi all,
Using siteSpinnerV2 on windows2000, A friend of mine wishes me to develop a site for him! - 'OK' so far! - but he wishes to be able (for him) to upload data, photos etc.. on his laptop anywhere in the world. Firstly is this possible? - I mean for 'him' to do it? - without using the same software on so on? Cheers |

Better if one of you is the master editor (creating the web site in SiteSpinner).
I've not tried collaborative web site development but here are some ideas ..... (a) Both of you install a file sharing server on your PC's such as BadBlue personal server for file sharing .. you then each run the BadBlue server on a convenient port number and share files between you. In fact Windows 2000 has its own personal server, but BadBlue is very easy to use. You will need a Dynamic DNS account from DynDNS.org and a utility which runs in your system. (b) You could try another approach and install preview version of Groove for collaboration. There is a web browser version at PopG web version which can be used from anywhere worldwide and saves a big download. (c) Would be helpful for him to have an iPass international access account if he is roaming world wide. With the above he can access your computer from anywhere (but only when you are on-line) and you can share files. DL |

Hi broughton,
The easiest thing to do would be for him to have a copy of SiteSpinner on his machine. Then he could build a mirror of the directory structure that you have for the site on your machine. Then he could download the directory off the server, make his edits, and then Publish the site. You would do the same thing when you needed to make edits. Because both your systems automatically upload the ims file, as long as you both downloaded the ims file before you made changes to the site, you would be safe in knowing the other's changes have not be overwritten. Now, if all he wants to do is upload images and date, and you make the changes to the actual site, then he will not need SiteSpinner. He will just need an FTP utility to upload to the server (which he can do from anywhere as long as he has Internet access). - Derry |
