Greetings ... when I upload my web page to my server do I have to change all the links that are referenced to my local drive to the ones on my website ? Currently if I place the mouse on an image on my website and it shows C:\images and of course the server can't find these images as they are on my HD

thanks in advance ... Vic

It sounds like you uploaded your preview pages. These are designed to run solely on your computer, hence they use absolute file:// type references to locations on your disk.

What you need to do is publish your project. If you are having problems using the built-in publisher to upload your pages to your site, then you can publish to a local disk directory. This will correct all the links and you can upload the pages from the local publish directory.

thanks for the info Larryd what I was doing is publishing to a local directory then I published them to "my web host(FTP) with the gather all files checked. Maybe my question should be after I test my web pages with links on my local directory when I upload them to my site do I need to change all the local links on my HD to http:// folders on my site so index.html will know where to find them.

thanks again, Vic

If you are publishing to your web site using using SiteSpinner's built-in FTP program with the gather all files option checked, then SiteSpinner will automatically change any link or file reference from your local hard disk location to a relative site location. Even if you published to a local disk, SiteSpinner would make these alterations so the links would be relative paths using no file:// reference.

This works for any link and file reference made using SiteSpinner tools. If you made manual entries, i.e., SiteSpinner did not make the links for you, then those types of links will not be converted.

AFAIK, the publishing methods in WebDwarf are the same as those in SS.

For links to other pages of your site in WD, I suggest links like these:
link type: blank
link URL: OtherPage.html
Change the page name to be the name of your other page, and don't forget the .html extension. In the project for the other page, you will also need to change its name from the default "index" to "OtherPage" -- this time without the .html extension.

This link will work in both preview and after you publish.

For images, as Larry has already said, with the right settings, SS and WD will set the links automatically for both preview and publish.
