I have finally published a public site now that I have retired and after many fruitful years of learning-by-lurking in the VM forums. (We originally bought SS to maintain a company-proprietary corporate intranet hidden behind a 6-inch (15 cm) thick firewall and patrolled by squadrons of security geeks. Hence the lurking...I couldn't exactly ask for help with secret/confidential stuff.) So, at long last...

Please look over www.labuenavidahoa.org and give me your thoughts. It's template vanilla. Nothing fancy. (Now that I am retired, I have 8 hours a day to tweak, maintain, fiddle and mess with it.)

Hi Tom,
First of all, well done and it really seems that the process of learning-by-lurking was fruitful.

Not sure if I count among the usual suspects but here are some points I would consider:
1. Image format - it seems that you use png as the image format. I would change that to jpg whenever possible. That would reduce the loading time. As an example on your Home page the image with organisation name is 118KB. The same image converted to jpg is only 16KB.
2. About page - you have 7 subsections on this page. When a visitor selects one of those the only way to reach the other is to go back to About main page. I would consider to add the possibility to reach any subsection from those pages as well. (Let me know if I am unclear in my explanation.)
3. HOA BOARD button - I would center the text over the button just like the other buttons.
4. News pages - on the actual article pages I would either make the background shorter (gives the pages unfinished look, IMHO) or at least move down the bottom navigation bar. Another thing I would suggest is to fully justify the texts.
5. Texts in the boxes look a little bit cramped. I would add some padding to create a lighter impression.

Looks great to me, Tom! Does the job it's intended to do. Give it the final polish that Roma has suggested (she's brill at these things!) and you have a superb site IMHO.

Well done!

Thank you very much. Excellent suggestions and I'll start immediate work on them.

And mccifa, just between you and me....Roma is among the 5 or so people on this site who have taught me MORE than they'll ever know... Smile
