Two issues popped up today as I was updating my website (www.mhacu.com/cancerpxs):

1. I created a new link and looked at an old one, on the same page. In each case, I specified that clicking on the link open a new page, but it doesn't. The linked website takes the place of my own in the browser (IE8).
2. I tried to change the text for a link on another page to bold, but the bold does not hold. (That's a poem!) No matter what I do, the bolding disappears.

The link issue is more important, because I don't want visitors to leave my page when clicking on a link.

The bolding issue is a pesky though not critical one. It relates to style issues more than anything else.

Thank you!

1. You can make links in two places: inside the Text Editor and from the Quick or Object Editors. The Text Editor link takes priority, so that if you have one of those, the Quick Editor link will not work.

2. Try applying the bold first, then apply the link. You will need to remove the link completely first.

I am having a similar problem. Links on a page going forward work, but going backward do not. This is not going to work. Any suggestions?

Hi, Bruceeee. Long time, no hear! I really appreciate your responding. I'll give that bolding suggestion a try. But why don't the links open in a new window?

AccuBill: running with my theory that you have almost the same link in two places, check the one you made with the Text Editor -- that might not be marked "Open in a new window".

WJJ: can you provide some more details? Like examples of page links that fail and don't fail? Have you done any page renaming and deletions? When the link "fails" what are the symptoms? Does the link still display correctly on the browser status bar? Anything else that might help with long-distance diagnosis?

Hi.

Do the links stay in the same browser in preview? have you tried them published on line, because other links on your site are opening in new windows, do you mean it's just the links you want to bold that won't open in a new browser?

Cheers,
Tonga.

Bruceee: Thank you for the assistance. I made sure there was only one link -- I had done this, but this time I did it more thoroughly, and in fact needed to delete one of the text blocks and redo it, since there was some sort of "ghost" link in it -- and now the links work properly.

Dear Tonga: The typefont problem is a bit of a headscratcher. I've been using PCs since 1981, so I know how to select and size a font. But no matter how often I tried changing Arial to Arial Black, it came up Arial. Since the two text blocks -- two separate links -- didn't match, no matter what I did, on the final go-round I applied a rule that someone must have named. Instead of trying to bet Text Block A to match Text Block B, I changed the typography in B to match that of A! Naturally, it worked. I did think for a while that there was a memory management problem causing gremlins to run around, so I shut the computer down, with no good effect.

Thank you for answering my post!

Thanks. I figuered it out. As I bgan building the site I was adding links to each page, instead of creating links in the index and copying to all the appropriate pages. I obviously had lins on some pages incorrectly linked. Dumb rookie errors.
Thank you s mcuh for the follow up. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Recupertaing from surgery.
