When you have missing images on your site, the most likely explanation is that you have not uploaded the changed contents of your published /image folder. Or you may think you uploaded, but actually uploaded to the wrong folder on your site.

Pick the first image that is missing, and make careful note of its name or URL. (Right click the missing image and view the Properties). Suppose it is a thumbnail with a name like obj54geo117pg8p30.png. You should see a folder folder name just ahead of the image name to give a final part of the URL like /image/obj54geo117pg8p30.png.

In this case, you should have a file of that exact name in the /image folder on your site.

If not, turn to your 'Local Publish Directory' -- the exact location on your disk appears in Publisher > Pages tab. It will contain the folder /image, and inside there should be the image with that exact name.

If you are using an FTP program, drag-and-drop from your local /image folder to the remote /image folder. Or copy/upload if you don't have drag-and-drop (same thing). If you are using SiteSpinner to do the upload, just republish the page.

Suppose you have done all that without error messages, and images or even pages are still missing or not changed. The most likely possibility is that you have uploaded to the wrong folder.

The key thing is that you should have only one image and one geometry folder. If you unintentionally have other folders with the same names, you may upload to the wrong folder without realizing it.

This is what a SiteSpinner-created site should basically should look like (starting at the root):
Folder(geometry)
Folder(image)
index.html {you should always have a file with this name, not a folder)
page2.html (if you have renamed your pages, these will be different)
page3.html
etc.

There may be other folders showing there too -- if you didn't create them they may be related to housekeeping for your site, and nothing to be too concerned about. Browse through all the folders on your site, looking for extra folders or sub-folders with names like /image or /geometry.

When you first start your site it may not completely clear what your remote publish folder should be. You may be tempted to enter something like 'index.htm', and SiteSpinner may dutifully create a folder of that name. This is wrong.

So watch for folders called index.htm or index.html -- in fact be suspicious of any folder that has a dot in the middle. If in doubt, check your local publish directory -- the structure of your remote site should be a close match. The image folder you write to should be the one that shows in your root directory (as in the list above).

I've published a project to a local folder on my computer, and when I view it, it looks great. If I try and send the page to someone else, all the images are missing. Clicking on the properties portion of the missing image shows that the path is to a temporary internet file under documents and settings, not the folder where the actual image is stored. Can anyone help point me in the right direction, or do I have to actually publish this onto the web first?

Thanks

If you're emailing the page to someone, you would also need to include the images, since they are separate files. I don't know how that would work out in practice.

Much easier is to publish the page (and images) onto the web somewhere, then just email the URL of the page.
