For all sorts of reasons - nothing specific to do with SiteSpinner - after 3 months I have uninstalled Vista and gone back to XP. What a relief from constant problems.
For SiteSpinner there was one issue though. Loading a page up using the built in FTP would take about 2 to 5 seconds of the little Vista whirly thing before the upload started (assembling the files, I guess). The same if you assign a new Profile name to apply. In XP it is instant. Does not sound like much of a deal but with nearly 40 sites going the waiting each time seemed magnified to me.
I also think the SS_FTP actually works faster in XP then Vista but that is a subjective guess.
I attribute all the issues to Vista and not SS since there were issues with scores of programs including most of all my brand new MS Office 2007 (works great on XP)

I have been slightly tempted to switch to Vista -- but have been resisting. Your experiences will reduce the temptation Smile

I had to buy a new computer and shift my old one to server duty. The new came with Vista Home Premium pre-loaded, and if I could I'd wipe it out and revert to XP. My new box has 3G memory and Vista take up nearly 1G by itself. With the extra memory, it is running nearly as fast as XP but still has lots of other problems.

From various forums, I found hints that MS is working on an XP Service Pack 3. If this is true, then they must think that XP is far from dead. I also understand that Dell is offering laptops with your choice of Vista or XP.

So far, I've seen nothing inherently better in Vista that warrants anyone changing over.

I've been given a new laptop by a grateful client (a nice surprise!) - and it came preloaded with Vista. This laptop has a spec that is 2-4 times better than my existing laptop running XP-Pro. Like the OP I find it incredibly frustrating that Vista seems to take so long to do things, compared to XP.

Just opening webpages takes a while longer and although in actual terms it's not a huge delay, it is annoying - especially watching that darned rotating circle.

In addition, I've found that some software I have that I need on the new laptop will not run on Vista. Loading my perfectly good (for me) Office 2000 applications is OK but Outlook will not run - yet. OK, Vista has 'mail' as a replacement for Outlook Express, but what do we do with all the data we have on a previous machine?

Lotus Organizer, which I've used for years and keeps historical data which by law I have to keep for 6 years, will not run on the 64bit version.

There are some interesting things in Vista (though how useful they are I don't know) but some annoying ones too. The first Vista update pack SP1 is due out this month (September) according to PC mags so I may give it a try. But, I use Norton Ghost to create complete hard drive images to a USB drive and I must admit to getting close to just wiping out the Vista hard drive on the new machine and imaging this XP-Pro laptop drive across.

Doesn't Microsoft realise that we don't just want change for the sake of change, but improvements WITH the ability to use/transfer all our old/current software and data? Much of the 'improvements' just seem to be the addition of extra facilities which they've copied from elsewhere - such as the new item to snap sections of the screen display, for which I use a better free program (MWSnap)anyway.

Hmmmm ..... not very impressed so far!

I've been poking around the web trying to get my Vista working nearly as good as XP. Do a search for "vista tweaks" and you can find some good info on how to speed up some things and "fix" some of the "features."

There are also tutorials about setting up your computer to dual-boot Vista and XP. This looks like a good way to go as long as you have hardware drivers available for your computer. Unfortunately this is not an option for me (my motherboard does not even have an IDE connector - all SATA - and XP does not load).

I had all sorts of problems with transfering files to an FTP site with Vista. I put up with it for a couple of months as well and in the end it was back to XP or a metal assylum.

I guess I'm one of the few that hasn't had any real problems with Vista. Of course I've got the Ultimate version so maybe that makes a difference. I use AllWebMenus 5 PRO for my button maker and dumped Windows Explorer for Directory Opus (I did that back in my XP days) and use DO for my FTP work, simple drag and drop. I publish my site to my disk and just copy over the pages that I've changed. When I was uploading via WebEngine, I didn't really notice any delay. But then again my site is a family site and doesn't have a whole lot to it. Yet Smile

Vister now that’s a question,
I like XP, I have read lots about Vister, and none of it good.
It is a very slow system, as it loads its 1G of info into its memory ready for you to use it, but this is also slow.
Many applications do not like working with vaster, and cause problems.
I think micro soft should just go back to XP, in stead of forcing us to use such a F&*^% up application, what wrong with putting there hand up and saying we have made a big mistake? We all know they have!!!!

I have read that they plan to faze Vister out in the next few years, at the moment I can still track down xp computers, but soon this will be difficult and I will be stuck with Vister of I will not bother to get a new pc.
My sister has Vister basic and it is basic, I am talking her through it over the phone, as some of the Vister mapping is the same as xp, but it is notoriously slow.

Personally I would say stick with xp, if you need a new pc, look into upgrading hardware inside yours, or find a top speck reconditioned xp.
