I don't know if this has been mentioned before (can't find anything) but as my free WS-FTP died with an old PC, I tried this freebie:
http://www.2createawebsite.com/build/free-ftp-software.html It's basic - has no drag and drop (have to use the old shift/ctrl keys to select files) and it does not store sign-on information, but it does work and it is FREE! So, for the odd file upload it works OK for me. mccifa |

At last I've found a good free FTP to replace my WS FTP. This is much better than the previous one I mentioned as it does so much more - and stores the connection details for many sites if required.
http://www.coreftp.com/ It is the LE version which is free. So CoreFTP LE. mccifa |

You should give filezila a try. It is free and opensource. I have used it for years and it has all the functionality I need (including drag and drop).

Who is your host?
What is your ftp client? What information are you plugging into the fields (you don't have to include your password). j razz www.jrazzcreations.com |

Thanks, J Razz ..... I've found 'Filezilla' and looked at the screen shots. Yes, it looks very good and very much like Core FTP Lite thanks. mccifa |

I haven't found a better free FTP program than the Leech FTP.
You find it on http://www.download.com/3000-2356-10122208.html The only sad thing is that no more development is done on the program, but it really works fine on XP SP2. |

I highly reccomend coreftp, as mentioned before... i have never had issues with it, and i've ran it on both windows and linux.

It is a small world. Skydad is on there too (as a user anyway). What is your username?

Derry,
Would you all at VM make a sticky for FTP clients that are recommended by users and VM staff? That would seem to be a good candidate for a sticky. j razz www.jrazzcreations.com |

I haven't used any of these free FTP programs because I have never seen the need.
I use the FTP built into Windows XP. Just go to "My Network Places" -- click my site icon; it's an automatic logon -- then drag-and-drop as in Windows Explorer. It probably *is* Windows Explorer. One limitation I have is that I can't drag-and-drop or copy/paste between folders on my site. So my question is -- am I missing out on anything else? |

I use filezilla because my choice brand of USB memory stick has U3 technology which allows for the running of programs straight from the stick. One such program is Filezilla and it allows for the storage of passwords, user accounds, startup directories and this is all for multiple accounts (I have over 12 ftp accounts for different sites that I am currently upkeeping). It just makes it easier and I don't have to remember as much.
