In surfing the web today, I came across a couple of things that might be of interest. I hope the folks at Virtual Mechanics might comment on whether this stuff is the best way to go about doing things.
When I began to experiment with adding sound to my website (a very good local choir, so audio was obviously an issue) I was frustrated that the default embedded Windows audio control always loaded with the volume set far too low for my tastes. I found out how to set the default position: (1) Bring in your audio file. I use the Foreign Object/Other File Type as the type. (2) You can set the AutoStart, which makes the file begin to play immediately, and the VisibleControl, which loads the Play/Stop/Mute/Volume controls. (3) Here's the cool part. In the Parameters section, put "Volume" (without the quotes) in the name side, and put a number from 0 to -6000 in the value side. Value___Result __0_____full -500____half -1000___default level -6000___mute So if you used a value of -1000, you'd get the volume that SiteSpinner uses by default. (4) Another option: use "Balance" in the name field, and use -10000 to 10000 in the value field. -10000 gives full left only, 10000 gives full right only, and "0" gives a balanced output. (5) Finally, if you use "Hidden" in the name field and "true" in the value field, the entire device will be hidden, provided you also leave "Visible Control" unchecked. So, for example, you can create an invisible audio player on a page that behaves just like the "Music" tab on the "Page Properties" page, except that now you can control the volume and pan there, too. This seems to work well for Internet Explorer. I have no idea how it would work with Apple browsers, or with Firefox. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Richard Iredale, |

Great insights Richard, thought it deserved to be under this category.

Do a search on "Quicktime skins". But I think you need to purchase a QuicktimePro license.
