Bruceee,
When you press 'Print screen' the image is saved to the clipboard. You can open it in 'Paint' for example, by selecting, 'Edit>Paste' |

OK I confess, it was a windup.
I was trying to make the point that Print Screen is not a one-button solution. Having got it into the Windows clip board, you then need to crop it and save -- more buttons. And if the image is too big to fit on screen, you only get part of the image. Still more buttons. To steal images using IE7, my method would be from the browser window, use main menu File > Save As > Save as type > Webpage Complete. All the images are saved in a folder -- grab whatever you want. |

In FireFox, right-click->View Page Info, then look under the media tab. Everything in the cache is ready to be saved (with preview).

I really should have known better, Bruceee Reminds me of the Tech Support Guy, on the phone to a confused customer. (Tech Support) "Ok, now press any key" (Customer) "But my keyboard doesn't have an 'any' key" |

Agreed, if people want the image they'll get it.
My website is about railfanning, and I plan to offer wallpaper-sized images (1024x780 or larger) for purchase, and eventually will have a lot of images for viewing. I've added a copyright watermark on all the photos but of course someone can simply crop it off. Make sure you post a 'Copyright' notice and a 'Use of Photos' notice to warn would-be image thieves. 'Course you may never find out if someone is using your photo illegally, but if you do there are legal resources available. What I've done is the following: 1. I use thumbnail-sized images with the 'Pop-up Full-Sized Image' option in Sitespinner, which allows the viewer to see the image but not save it. 2. The larger image is only 640 x 480 and when I created the images in this size I also reduced the resolution. Sure, the viewer can right-click and 'Save Link Target As...' but if they enlarge it to, let's say, 1024 x 740 the image becomes more pixelized. Hopefully when the 'thief' views the poorer image they'll not want to keep it. Not much else can be done, unfortunately. The transparent 'cover' is a good idea but if you're using a thumbnail to link to a larger image people can still right-click and save the target. I tried using the Javascript idea to disable the right-click but for some reason could never seem to get it to work. I hope someone can take a look at the 'samples' page on my website regarding this issue: www.agencyphotographers.com
I tried creating an invisible object overlay on the display area where each sample pops up. The result was that the only image to display was the default image. Clicking the thumbnails to call up another image would not work as it does now. Do I need to do the overlay on each individual image to protect them? Or does the overlay HAVE to be a gif? I do know that if you set the parameters for an image to display the full size image when clicked that you cannot right click the image - it just restores the image to its smaller size. Unless there is some way to do that which I am missing, it is pretty fool proof. However, this tested poorly with people who were looking at images on our site for samples of our photographers' work. I do wonder if a mouse-over option, where the image popped to full size and restored after the mouse moved away, might work at preventing a right-click save. I have not been able to make any mouse-over work at all - which I know means I am doing something wrong. The closest I have gotten to a mouse-over effect is hovering on links (this is my first website design ever, and thank goodness for SiteSpinner). Would setting mouse-over options override any right-click ability? Thanks, Michael |

Does this mean that the invisible overlay covered your i-frame (pho2726)? If so, it should have not interfered with loading the i-frame with a mouse click on any of the thumbnails. A mouse-over used with a thumbnail should work, but you cannot use the normal SiteSpinner SpecialFX mouse-over with i-frames. I-frames must be loaded and the special effects mouse-over only works with SS objects. Javascript can be used to load the i-frames, or you can just use the SS SpecialFX mouse-over to display the larger images without the i-frame. Bruceee has a tutorial here on this mthod. |

Yes, the object was over the iFrame. I'll try that again - maybe I did it wrong.
The iFrame also pulls from internal pages - the only way I could figure out how to do the blown-up images was to create a page per image to which each thumbnail directs the iFrame. Basically I hijacked the way one of the built in templates work to make this operate the way I wanted. Thanks for the response - I'll see if I can get the overlay to work this time. |

Wayne,
Print Screen still does work. At least it does in XP, and I am sure it should also still work in all operating systems. If it’s on your keyboard, it will work. If you hit the “Print Screen” key, it will capture the entire screen. Holding down the Alt key at the same time will capture only the active screen (or dialogue/message box etc). You won’t see anything happen immediately, but if you open another program such as Word, you can paste that image into it. The Print Screen these days copies the image to your Clipboard. DOS didn’t have a clipboard, so it was transferred direct to your local printer. I think the newer way is better, as it gives you more options as to what to do with the image. For instance, post it on this forum for better explanation. Terry EDIT: I just read some earlier posts on this thread, and my comments have mostly been already covered. |

Wow! The things you learn in these forums! I wondered for years why the print screen key was still on the keyboards. Wayne |
