When you do an "all" page FTP to site, I would like to see an option to do "Web Site Cleanup" -- meaning to delete files and directories not being used. I have noticed thru the years of changing my web site that there are a lot of "Junk" files that are no longer being used. I currently have unlimited space but for someone who has space limitations... this might be of concern.
I'm not sure how SiteSpinner would know what is relevant at any point in time and how it would determine what should be kept vs what should be deleted.
My site is built from many different SS project files, so one project does not know what the others contain. I surely would not want one SS project deleting files uploaded by another project or even those created using another site building tool.
If you would like to manually delete any unused files and/or folders, your host should have provided you with a control panel with a file manager for this purpose. If you are one of the unlucky people with no account control panel, you can use either the SS built-in FTP tool (Publisher->FTP tab's Browse button) or a 3rd party FTP program.
That is why it should be an option. And with my projects -- there is only one project file per site not multiple projects. Yes I started with an old version of Site Spinner and Web Engine but instead of keeping the old stuff, I upgraded the Project files to the current version and made the changes to keep the project files with the current version. So with this scenario, there is one point that Site Spinner Pro should know what is and isn't relative to my site.
My point is that I should be able to clean-up and edit my site using one product instead of multiple products
I do not think VM will add an option to allow you to wipe out your entire site and rebuild it from the current project. One little mistake by a user to check this option before publishing could wipe out an entire e-business, and VM gets yelled at. Most software companies avoid giving their users loaded guns, no matter how careful they say they are.
You already have the ability to perform this from with SS and SSPro, although it is a manual operation. Open the Publisher to the FTP tab and click the Browse button. In the resulting window, use the standard windows selector options to highlight multiple files and click the "Delete Files" button. You will need to open and delete files within a folder before deleting the folder, but this is a limitation of FTP, not SS/SSPro.
My FTP Client allows for the deletion of folders that contain files. You are right about FTP having that limitation however some clients have the ability to work around that limitation.
I believe that you are grasping at straws here as I have heard the same type of arguments made against Alcoholic Beverages, Lotto/Lottery, and Casinos -- that just because of a few that abuse it then we should ban it or in the case of the above make it illegal. It should be an optional feature not set by default. If the option is set you then bring another screen that states that you are about to delete all files and folders on your FTP site. Also, it could be implemented in such a way that you have an exclusion list for files and/or folders that you don't want deleted such as an external Java Script or Data file.
