I would love to have a project specific Profile Name, i.e. SS would remember the Profile Name in the Publisher.
I have four sites that retain the Project Profile the others revert to other site profiles when closed and re-opened. Also to have the preview folder open and store the files in project specific folders would be a great help when trying to find and delete files. Thank you Tony |

Not quite sure what your problem is there.
I have quite a few projects, each with a different profile name. When I open a specific project, the profile name is retained, as are the "Publish" directories etc for that particular project. If you save a project under a different name, and don't change the profile name, SS will retain the settings of the original project. |

That's what has always happened with my projects before with SS, but now with SSPro, I was told by the VM Team that the profile now reverts back to the default.
So like I said the problem is some sites do retain the Profile name and the publish directories and others (four) don't. I have tried numerous times to set the project names and saved them to disk and they still return to another projects name. Maybe I have a bug and should post this in the "Report Suspected Bugs" Section This message has been edited. Last edited by: TonyC, |

Tony, my apologies. You are dead right.
I'm sure it has worked for me before, but I just tried again and got the same result as you. This is on my work computer, but I'm sure it works on my home computer. Maybe some oddity in different OS versions. I will check it out when I eventually get home for New Years Celos. |

Thanks for confirming that Postyr, Now I don't have to post it in the Suspected Bugs.

Tony,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I have been away for a few days, and after getting home completely forgot all about this thread. As promised, I checked it out here at home, where I have no less than 39 different projects (a lot of those are tests, and not actually published to the web, only to disk). At work, I only have one. There I did a couple of quick tests with some dummy projects to try your theory, and now realise my error. All of my projects at home retain their correct settings. What you may be doing wrong is saving your project (as an IMS file) without changing the profile name on the Publishing dialogue box. If you simply overtype the profile name there, that will be retained in all projects you save and reopen. Make sure you add a new profile name (and publishing settings) before saving the project itself. What you should be doing is, before saving the project itself, open the Publish dialogue box then click “New” next to the profile name. After entering a new profile name and changing your publishing details on the Pages tab, these settings will be saved for that project for when you next open it. On the off chance that it doesn't, you can select the profile you want from the drop down box. The respective changes will appear in the Local Publish Directory of the Pages tab. This will also apply to the FTP tab. There was a question similar to this by someone else on this forum recently, but I can’t seem to find that thread now. They were trying to upload a project to their sister’s site. If they had have followed the process above, each project would be opened with the saved FTP settings as in the Pages tab. This saves having to re-enter usernames and passwords etc. Hope I have explained this properly, Terry |

I have just done a few simple tests in both SS Basic and SS Pro. If I set a publish profile, then save the project, SS remembers the profile for next time.
Terry, I think you've solved it!!! Let's hope Tony agrees |

Hi Terry,
Thanks for taking all the time to look at the problem. I have 9 projects and all of them have been set up in the way that you describe by selecting a new profile and adding all of the publishing details for that particular profile. Only three of the projects have retained the profile that I set originally, the others revert to a different profile even after publishing to disk or Internet. I just tried deleting one profile from the publisher and re-entered it and published to disk. When re-opened the project had assumed another profile in the publisher. Sorry Bruce, for me it doesn't work. |

I'm sorry its not working out for you.
I have done extensive tests, and for me it works fine. As, does it seem, for Bruce. I have no idea why you are having problems. |

Tony, the key step you may be missing is this:
Having set the correct Publisher profile, you must then save your project (Ctrl + S). Even though nothing else in your project has changed. Publishing will not do it -- unless you then start using the copy of your project that SiteSpinner places in your local publish folder. (I'm guessing that the local publish folder copy is correct -- that needs to be confirmed with an actual check.) |

Bruce, you are absolutely correct. I missed that completely.

Mate, that's what we are all here for.
Glad you got it sorted out. |
