I would like to add Google Analytics to my site and have been given a code/script but I do not know where to put the code in SS. Can someone help?

Goolge tell me it has to go just before the body tag......also can someone please tell me where I should post questions as when I try and post on forum for "code" I get a message telling me I do not have access to this area.....can someone tell me why i am restricted in this way?

Many Thanks

You are probably trying to post in the FAQ section which is indeed restricted. However, you can post here and also in the most frequently used "How do I?" forum.

I'm not familiar with Google analytics, but if they mean for you to put the code before the opening body tag, use a custom header via the Page Editor. If before the closing body tag, use a Code Object -- left toolbar.

We can read the restricted parts of the forums, but we can't post to them. Only VM can do that.

Can you post a link to your page containing the Google Analytics code? Someone can then check to see how you have it inserted and verify it is in the correct place on your page.

larryd, Analytics code needs to be installed just before the </body> tag... I haven't figured out how to do it with SS either, the source doesn't show body tags.

You should be placing the code in an SS code object. Then click the "To Front" button on the bottom toolbar. This will place it before the </body> tag. If you add any additional objects after this, you will need to use the "To Front" button again since additional objects are placed "below" if on the page. If you use SS SpecialFX, the code to control this will be placed before the </body> tag and the Google Analytics code will be placed above it, but it will still work.

Also, I have noticed that modern browsers will parse an HTML page and place all javascript in its own cache before displaying the page. This means that you can also use the special geometry name of BELOWBODY for the code object which will place the code below the </body> tag and it will still work. This has worked for me with other javascript codes, but I have not tried it with the analytics code.
