Working now with both SS 2.7f, SSBeta and SSPro I've noticed one feature that is no longer there in the latest versions. In SS 2.7f, if you lock an object and copy it pasting the copy places the copy in the same position as the original. In the new versions of SS the objects doesn't keep the same position. This feature is quite a time saver so I would welcome to have it back Smile.

I came across this myself a while back, but couldnt work it if I had being doing something wrong.

If you copy a locked object, and then, on another page use the mouse to right-click and paste, the object will go where you physically clicked.

However, if you use Edit>Paste copy.. it does in exactly the same palce as the original.

I dont know if this was done by design, or if it is a bug.

I've just done this in SSPro 2.91c and it works as Andy described. The original object doesn't even need to be locked.

The way it works now makes sense to me:
  • Edit > Copy /Paste (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V) copies the object it the same location it was on the original page -- you have given no indication you want a different location. (Ctrl + Shift + V pastes a clone.)
  • Pasting in via the mouse is an indication that you want it somewhere else, so it seems reasonable for SS to put it somewhere else. With the old method and a locked object, you were stuck with the original location.

I think it is an improvement -- let's hope Roma agrees Smile

Yes, Im quite happy with it the way it is. But of course, unless you know how it works it can be a but confusing.

I would still like to know if this has been done by design.

Yes Bruce I am inclined to agree that it's an improvement Wink although there is a little but. Being very much a mouse person I found it very practical to be able to copy e.g. a title from one page, paste it on another page and change text while keeping it in the same place. This is not such a big deal though, I think I'll survive the change of habits Smile.

    Yes, that is by design.

Paste, using CTRL+V or the main menu (Edit > Paste...), for the first time on a different page, places the object in the same place as the original.

Subsequent pastings, or if the first paste is on the same page as the object, will offset the object. (down and to the right).

If you have scrolled the page so that the original is not in the visible portion of the page. The object will be pasted in the center of the page.

On the other hand, if you Paste from the context menu (right mouse click), the object will be placed where the mouse was clicked. This latter method allows you to place an object at the mouse postion.

If you have thoughts on ways to improve this, don't hesitate to let us know.
