In the last week or so I have been messing about with MODx, a CMS system Godaddy was nice enough to offer as an easy install.
As someone who has been a long time user of WYSIWYG, specifically our loved SS and SSPro, code is SO not my strong point. But using the CMS' means I am busily picking up CSS and blowing the dust off of my HTML skills. I learn best up to my elbows in the guts of the thing though. I want to be able to create a page in my style of design and then look at the code and pick it apart. Yes, I realize I learn backwards. So my first wish list item is to be able to click a button that displays all .css code specifically rather than HTML. With CSS in mind I would also like to have a font sizing setting somewhere for em or %. I would REALLY like a way to set naming conventions for project items. Having to keep in mind that something was saved as "Obj16page4...." drives me oh so crazy. Yes I can change it's name in the obj editor but there must be some alternative to the mile long default system. And yes.. I want a pony... so I can ride off into the sunset! "Are we there yet?" |

Until VM gets around to this... I saw that you favor the FF browser. Go to their add-ons site and download the Web Developed extension. It provides a lot of tools for debugging web sites, including a method to dump all CSS used on a page.
I have also found the new IE8 with its Developer Tools (F12) very helpful. It even allows you to modify the CSS (and script code) of a displayed page and see the results in the browser. |
