When I select File-New Project or click the New Project tool bar icon, the mouse cursor always moves to the center of the new blank work area causing me to move it back to the tool bar area to select an object, other menu option, etc.

Please leave the mouse cursor alone.

I agree. I think it is very reasonable to leave the cursor exactly where it was.
