On XP, I get an error like: "...Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable ..."

If you get this message with either SiteSpinner or Web Engine then you have an earlier version of the software. Please download and install the latest release from here.

If you are running Windows XP you may see one of the following errors when you try to install WebDwarf:

16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\Winnt\System32\config.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

According to Microsoft, this may occur if one or more of the following files are missing or damaged:
Config.nt
Autoexec.nt
Command.com

That means some of your Windows files are missing (or damaged) from your computer. YOU MUST FOLLOW MICROSOFT'S INSTRUCTIONS (in the link below) TO RESTORE OR REPAIR THESE FILES before continuing with the installation.

The above solution describes how to restore the missing files from the XP installation CD. Some customers have had success just copying the missing autoexec.nt file from C:\windows\repair\ to C:\windows\system32\ but we have only tested the Microsoft method.

Note: although our programs are fully Win32, parts of the installer run in 16 bit mode.

NOTE: If you are not using XP or are seeing a message that says the program is "not a valid Win32 application" or "The Win16 subsystem was unable..." the installation file itself may be damaged. See the FAQ here.
